I have a non-steam AoE2 HD that I downloaded. It's working fine (No idea about multiplayer yet). Everything's good but the language is in "Italian", and I have no idea what text is saying. I need help. I heard changing the "steam_api.dll" file does the trick. I'm not so sure.
Navigate into C:\Users\\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\ Find two folders with a lot of numbers. Click through both of them, and find the mods folder and then the subscribed folder. Delete all folders inside. Try to start the game. Let me know if that works for you!
