4. Remove the interior door release handle cable. Start by popping the harness out of the mount on the locking mechanism. The harness is very securely mounted. I had to use a small screwdriver and leverage from a small gap below the mount to get it to pop out. After releasing the harness, unhook the cable.

They just don't seem to go easy like all the threads suggest. The vertical metal piece inside the door seems to stick up just far enough that it makes it near impossible to get the handle finger part over it without serious force and contortion of some sort. I am willing to practice now before paint, but something seems wrong so to speak.

Then to remove the handle, peel back the black foam cover just enough to reveal the hole where you can access the back of the door handle. I think there were 4 screws on the rear handle, 3 on the inside of the door and 1 on the side with an access hole similar to the front door pictured above. Now we have the handle out.
With the front door in the fully opened position, the screw driver is pointed forward. See the first picture below. Hold the screw driver in while you remove the stationary part of the handle to prevent the screw from falling out into the door. The stationary part of the handle will pop right out.
